Hospital Admissions

On occasion, a child may need to be admitted to the hospital for medical care. This is either arranged while your child is in our office being seen or with an after-hours phone call, the doctor may decide the child should either be admitted or sent to an emergency room for evaluation.

In either case, the physician will be involved with the decision-making and if an emergency room evaluation is needed, they will help you choose an emergency room.

Sometimes, the closest emergency room is needed because of the condition of the child. Other times, you may be asked to make the drive to the Children's Hospital and Health Center in San Diego emergency room.

Hospital admissions are usually referred to Children's Hospital. Occasionally, newborns are referred to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla where a neonatal intensive care nursery is available.

If you have visited an emergency room while you are out-of-town or were referred to the emergency room in the middle of the night, please try to touch base with our referral office during office hours so they can take care of properly notifying your insurance company.
